Essential Documents
Do I need a passport or a visa?
A valid US passport is required, and it must be valid for the length of your stay. A visa is not required for US residents staying in Mexico less than 180 days.
Take a photo of your passport and email it to yourself before you leave.
What about a fishing licence?
Everyone fishing from a vessel in Mexican waters needs a Mexican Fishing License. Yours is included in the trip and arranged for you before you arrive.
Weather & Attire
What is the weather like?
Typically sunny, dry and very hot — 85–95°F. The sun is strong and you are on the water for most of the day, so bring plenty of waterproof, high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher).
What should I pack?
On the water
- Lightweight, quick-drying tropical fishing clothing
- High UPF-rated shirts and sun hoodies
- Shoes with non-slip soles for the boat

- Polarised sunglasses
- Wide-brimmed hat
- Waterproof sunscreen, SPF 30+
Connectivity & Money
Is there WiFi and phone service?
WiFi is available at Baja House. Mobile phone service works in La Ventana and in some locations on the water. Check your roaming plan before you travel.
Currency, cards and gratuities
Credit cards are accepted at most local stores and restaurants. If you would like Mexican pesos for small purchases, the currency exchange windows at the airport are the easiest option on arrival.
Gratuity guidelines
- Guides — $100–150 per boat, per day ($50–75 per angler, per day)
- Staff — $30–50 per guest, per day

Equipment & Gear
What gear is provided?
Flies and terminal tackle — leaders and tippet — are included, and your guides carry patterns suited to what the fish are doing that week. Bring your own rods and reels; ourrecommended equipment list sets out the weights and specifications we suggest.
How many anglers per boat?
Fishing is done from a centre console boat with two anglers and one guide per boat.
