What to bring, straight from the pre-trip packet. Flies and terminal tackle are included — rods and reels are yours to bring.
Rods
Jacks and smaller species.
Roosterfish and dorado — the setup most guests use most.
Tuna and billfish.
Reels
- A strong disk dragSaltwater-grade, and sealed if you have the option.
- 200 yards of backing, minimum30lb or stronger braided backing.
Rig your reels before you travel where you can.
Lines
The guides' preference
A tropical floating line with a 15–30ft intermediate tip is the line the guides prefer.
Worth having as well
Floating and fast-sinking lines are useful if the fishing conditions change.

Leaders & tippet
Leaders
9ft saltwater leaders, 15–40lb. Tapered leaders are ideal but not required.
Tippet
Spools from 15–40lb are perfect for making your own leaders. Shock tippet of 80 and 100lb is useful for tuna or billfish.
Fluorocarbon leader and tippet material is helpful but not required.
Flies
The fish are typically feeding on large schools of baitfish, 2–4 inches long and predominantly silver with dark olive backs. Poppers can also be effective when the fish are blitzing.
